Всё началось в начале девяностых, когда я купил свой первый комикс — это был третий том «Торгала» на польском языке. Тот подход к визуальному повествованию меня буквально околдовал.
Тогда мы с приятелем и начали пробовать рисовать свои истории, а с появлением интернета стали открывать для себя новых авторов. На рисунках ниже можно заметить явное подражание стилям Хименеса и Серпиери — мы учились, копируя то, что нам нравилось.
We were naive enough to believe that when we grew up, we would do nothing but draw comics.
At the time, computers were only for games and browsing; we drew strictly by hand on paper. Looking back, I’m not even sure I could replicate those epic watercolor spreads today.
We had no practical knowledge, and there was nowhere to get it from. We would jump straight into drawing pages without even thinking about a script, hoping the story would lead itself somewhere.
For instance, when I decided to draw a comic about the Argonauts, I just took a “Myths of Ancient Greece” book and literally translated the text into panels.
I’ve gathered everything I have left from that era. Countless moves left no chance for the paper originals to survive.
